What is the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)?

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is a non-regulatory Federal Agency established in 1901 in the US Commerce Department’s Technology Administration. This NIST mission is to develop and promote measurement, standards and technologies to enhance productivity, facilitate trade and improve quality of life.
