Beckman Coulter Life Sciences ≠ Beckman Coulter

What's the difference?

In 1997, Beckman Instruments acquired Coulter Corporation, and a year later the combined companies became Beckman Coulter, Inc.

In 2011, Danaher Corporation purchased Beckman Coulter, Inc., and subsequently divided it into two distinct Danaher operating companies: Beckman Coulter Life Sciences, headquartered in Indianapolis, and Brea, California-based Beckman Coulter Diagnostics.

To help distinguish the two companies, Beckman Coulter Diagnostics retained the original logo for Beckman Coulter, Inc., while the words Life Sciences were added for Beckman Coulter Life Sciences.

Do both companies serve the same customers?

In general, no. Although there are some customers in common, Beckman Coulter Life Sciences is primarily a global leader in scientific research instruments for academic, cellular analysis and bio/pharmaceutical segments. The majority of our technologies are used to accelerate the answers scientists need to help discover new therapies and treatments, not to administer or monitor those therapies.

In contrast, Beckman Coulter Diagnostics focuses primarily on in vitro diagnostics systems and assays used in hospitals and critical care settings around the world. Their innovative products help healthcare professionals diagnose disease, make treatment decisions and monitor patient health.

Why do my research lab’s instruments have the original Beckman Coulter logo?

Legally speaking, Beckman Coulter, Inc. still owns the trademarks for products manufactured by our company as well as those from Beckman Coulter Diagnostics.

If your lab uses Beckman Coulter instruments for research, those instruments are made and marketed by Beckman Coulter Life Sciences – and we’re always ready to assist you with service, support, consumables, labware and instrument upgrades.
