What is a threshold noise level and how is it determined?

Threshold noise level is the voltage level below which electrical noise becomes significant. At lower threshold (or channel) settings, significant counts result from electrical noise rather than actual particles being counted. The threshold noise level determines the smallest particle size that can be counted by a liquid particle counting instrument.
